This year students will be given the opportunity to take the MCA Math Test two different times.  If a student does not meet or exceed test standards the first time, they will take the test again to improve their score.

The MCA is the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment and all schools in the state take it during April and May.  You will be mailed your child’s results this summer/early fall.

Good Luck 5th Grade Students!!!

Band/Orchestra Informational Meeting

Mrs. Crissinger, the orchestra teacher, and Mr. Dawson, the band teacher have come to Hawthorne to inform our fifth graders about signing up to play an instument next year!  The informational/sign-up meeting will be held Tuesday, April 3rd from 4-7pm at Southwest Middle School.  If your child did not return a form for orchestra and band last week, but is still interested in signing up, they can attend this open house and sign up to play an instrument!

Pennies for Patients

Our Hawthorne Citizenship Committee lead a school-wide fundraiser the last two weeks called Pennies for Patients which raises money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  We had a penny war in 5th grade where Miss Boyd's class won by just $1.00!  They will receive an extra recess for their winning donations.

Hawthorne raised $771.29!  Great job Hawthorne!!!  Thank you to our Citizenship Committee members: Ian Ball, Aidan Moffitt, Brooke Talamantes, and Solia Birch, who helped raise money for this great cause :).

I Love to Read Month Competition

Miss Boyd's class won the I Love to Read month competition for the month of February!  As a class, they read 59, 560 minutes!  We had a pizza party during lunch to celebrate...

In 5th grade at Hawthorne, we read over 90,000 minutes in the month of February!  Way to go 5th graders!

Dr. Seuss's Birthday

Friday, March 2nd was Dr. Seuss's birthday and we celebrated this fun event in many ways!

We had a read-in...

We had MN author/musician, Doug Wood, come to Hawthorne and teach us about reading and writing...

We had Cat in the Hat striped cupcakes...
